Hispanic American population, businesses exploding
- Hispanics account for approximately 15 percent of the nation's total population, and are the largest ethnic minority in the country.
- Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority group, with a 3.4 percentage increase between July 2005 and July 2006.
- The projected Hispanic population in the United States as of July 1, 2050 is 102.6 million.
- The United States has the third largest Hispanic population worldwide; only Mexico (106.2 million) and Colombia (43 million) outnumber the U.S. (42.7 million).
- The median age of the U.S. Hispanic population is 27.4 years; comparatively, the median age for the entire country is 36.4 years.
- As of 2002, there are 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses.
- The median income of Hispanic households is approximately $35,967.
