Statistics of the Month - September Hispanic American population, businesses exploding Hispanics account for approximately 15 percent of the nation's total population, and are the largest ethnic minority in the country. Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority group, with a 3.4 percentage increase between July 2005 and July 2006. The projected Hispanic population in the United States as of July 1, 2050 is 102.6 million. The United States has the third largest Hispanic population worldwide; only Mexico (106.2 million) and Colombia (43 million) outnumber the U.S. (42.7 million). The median age of the U.S. Hispanic population is 27.4 years; comparatively, the median age for the entire country is 36.4 years. As of 2002, there are 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses.
