Surprising facts on workers who are disabled
- Over 90 percent of employees with a disability are rated at least average on their performance reviews.
- Safety records between employees with disabilities and those without are nearly identical.
- 17 percent of disabled employees report that they were refused a promotion because of their disability.
- 22 percent of employed people who claim to be disabled report that they have experienced job discrimination, indicating a drop from 36 percent in 2002.
- 15 percent of employers noted they have a general reluctance to hiring workers with a disability; 10 percent said they were personally uncomfortable or unfamiliar with disabilities.
- Over 70 percent of people with disabilities do not require additional job accommodations; of those who do, only 17 percent cost more than $1000.
