    Diversity Speaker: Sondra Thiederman, PhD

Sondra Thiederman is one of the nation's leading experts on workplace diversity and cross-cultural business. As President of Cross-Cultural Communications, a San Diego-based training firm, Sondra has over 25 years experience as a speaker, trainer, and author helping organizations understand and successfully nate our increasingly diverse global marketplace.

Since receiving her doctorate with an emphasis on cross-cultural studies from UCLA, Sondra has helped hundreds of organizations develop practical, tangible solutions to their cross-cultural and diversity challenges. Her philosophy is centered on the core values of honesty and practicality. She learned long ago that if we are to deal effectively with these complex issues, we must tell the truth about the challenges and design strategies based in the realities of today's work - and marketplace.

Sondra's clients include leading firms such as, General Motors, UBS PaineWeber, Marriott Corporation, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, American Express, Xerox, AT&T, The Federal Reserve Bank, and Motorola. She has also addressed notable associations such as the Arthritis Foundation, the Society for Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business, the American Society of Association Executives, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Sondra has served as consultant to the University of California and the American Cancer Society and has been appointed by Elizabeth Dole to serve on the Diversity Cabinet of the American Red Cross.

Sondra frequently appears as an expert on diversity and bias-reduction in national publications such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Entrepreneur, U.S. News & World Report, and USA Today. She also is the author of four books on the topic of diversity. These include:

    • Bridging Cultural Barriers for Corporate Success: How to Manage the Multicultural Work Force
    • Getting "Culture Smart"™: Ten Strategies for Making Diversity Work
    • Profiting in America's Multicultural Marketplace: How to Do Business Across Cultural Lines (named one of the best business books of the year by the Library Journal).
    • Making Diversity Work: Seven Steps for Defeating Bias in the Workplace

In addition, she is featured in the diversity training videos, Bridging Cultural Barriers and Managing Workforce Diversity and has produced the best-selling motivational videos, Getting Along: Words of Encouragement, Words To Lead By, and Global Words for Global Leaders.
