2007 Series Metaphor: The Theater!
"The metaphor is probably the most fertile power possessed by men [and women]."
- Ortega y Gassett
Metaphor: to consider one thing in the terms of another.
The Theater - how are Inclusion and Engagement like the theater? Well, some say that effective theatre is all about inclusion and engagement!
How so? In every production, actors and crewmembers - diverse in countless ways - are challenged to transform their disparate backgrounds and skills into compelling, believable performances. It's not easy; it's hard work, a daily commitment to achieving excellence together.
What can we learn from the actors and the crew? If we're going to achieve inclusion and engagement in our work environments, we have to work hard at it - every day! Are we willing to make that commitment?
Every actor and crewmember takes individual responsibility for developing his or her craft. The results benefit the whole company and make it better. This is what included and engaged employees do!
This Series invites us to explore inclusion and engagement from several angles, from the points of view of five different population groups in our workplaces who are not always as included or engaged as others.
This Series encourages us to discover our edges, to reach beyond them so that our "life theater" includes and engages all people in our organizations' successful performances!
How do you think Inclusion and Engagement are like the theater?
